Catering involves elements of flexibility, quality, and style. One must create diversity so that he or she may be recognized for his or her own particular style. Lisa Bixby McGillivray, of Bixby's Caterers, believes in this. She prides herself in offering each client a delicious yet changeable menu, tasteful presentation, and a friendly, competent staff in the comfort of your home or in one of our preferred locations.

In 1994, Lisa bought an existing business located in Pennsylvania. She moved it to Wilmington, where she was raised, and named it Bixby's. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Lisa worked a total of 11 years in the hotel and restaurant industries, where she gained experience and knowledge. "Every aspect of my career, good and bad, has prepared me for this path, and I couldn't be happier . . . I love the fact that every situation is different," Lisa said.

Bixby's assists in the creation of the perfect menu for each event that best suits its clients' needs and tastes. Lisa offers suggestions and recommendations from lists of delicious menu items, but allows for variation so that all dietary requirements are met. She works with individual budgets when possible and is honest and sincere in all her practices.

Presentation is another aspect that distinguishes Bixby's from others. Fresh flowers, color, and artistic flair create a table to be remembered. People remember these extra touches as much as they do the food. "I enjoy simple elegance, and it can be found in both our food and our presentation . . . It's important that it looks as good as it tastes."

Bixby's Caterers employs a staff of 20 to 25 servers, cooks and bartenders, all of whom have extensive catering experience. They are friendly and efficient and "without them, I couldn't possibly succeed . . . they are the backbone of the business, and I value each one of them." Another vital element of the Bixby's team is Lisa's partner and on-site chef, Mitchell Waxman. Mitchell is responsible for creating all of the recipes that are used and is an integral part of Bixby's success. Lisa and Mitchell prepare all of the food themselves, adding personal touches and ensuring quality. One or both are present at all events so that every detail is carried out as planned.
